Energy Management
Whether as part of a solar PV system or as part of an energy efficiency strategy, it pays to perform an energy audit of your premises. We include this as a FREE consulting service if you proceed to install a solar PV system with us.
To get started, we install automated power logging meter(s) on your premises for a predetermined period (usually for at least one week or to suit your work cycles), so that we design your solution using your actual consumption profile. We also assess your most energy intensive operations, and whether the latest energy efficient technology (e.g. LED lighting, heat pumps, solar water heaters, etc.) is used. We tailor your energy efficient solution to your budget. For example, if you prefer to use your existing electric water heaters, we have developed a control and reticulation methodology that uses the daily solar PV peak to do the heating work for you, with very short payback periods. Power factor assessment and –correction may also be critical, minimising reactive power, and ensuring that as much as possible of your expenditure on electricity is on real power.
This process enables us to compile a bankable proposal for you: projecting Payback, Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Return on Investment (ROI). We want to put you in a position to make an informed decision.
Furthermore, on 27 March 2015, the South African Department of Energy (DoE) published Draft regulations regarding registration, reporting on energy management, and submission of energy management plans (Government Gazette no. 38614). According to these Regulations, energy users using in excess of 180Terajoules (TJ) (= 50MWh) per year must register with the DoE and report on their energy consumption, and users that consume in excess of 400TJ (= 111MWh), must, in addition, submit energy management plans and progress reports to the DoE.
